First Stop, London

After the Queen Mary, we went straight to London. Our goal was to see quite a lot in a week without killing ourselves. Most days, we over did it a bit as well as picked up a cold/virus that kinda set us back, but overall, we had a good week. Here are the highlights:

Big Bus Tour – it was expensive, but helped us see and learn about all the major sights in a few hours and included a cruise on the Thames.

Tour of Buckingham Palace – expensive, but so interesting. The tour is open during the summer holiday months and takes you through the state rooms (no Pictures inside.)

Gluten Free Fish and Chips Twice – Delicious and expensive, definitely not peasant food anymore.

Book Visits – Like all Roads lead to Rome, it seems like all books are connected to London. It was a lot of fun to visit specific places connected to books we love. Separate post to come.

Macbeth at the Globe – This was So Well Done. The actors dressed in modern costumes, but delivered original dialogue. Fantastic!

Tower of London – toured the exhibits in the White Tower (the oldest part built by William the Conqueror) and the crown jewels (again, no pictures allowed): Expensive, but a great history lesson.

Tower Bridge- We just walked across the Tower bridge, rather than paying to go up in it. That was plenty cool and how many things should one pay 30 pounds per person to do?

The National Gallery – This is an amazing museum and free to the public. It was very crowded, like Disney-world-crowded, but a must see for this art lover. The crowds wore out the kids quickly, but they persisted until Scott and I had seen our bucket list galleries. The highlights were the Monet’s and Van Gogh’s as well as two Leonardo Da Vinci’s.

The Lego Store – For the kids of course, but the Lego statues and creations make it worth the wait in line.

The Prime Meridian in Greenwich: Zero Degrees Longitude and the place where all time is marked from – You can stand with one foot in one hemisphere and one in the other. We unfortunately got there past the Last Entry time, but were able to snag a picture and enjoy the view.

There were a few places we wanted to see, but just didn’t have the time and/or energy to get to. If there is a “next time” the Charles Dickens Museum, Churchill War Rooms and a Musical in the West End will be at the top of our list.

Please excuse the amateur lay out on this page. I worked on it for too long and cannot get it like I want it; time to move on:).
